Abhishek Bachchan, who won the best actor comic award Saturday at the TOIFA for his funny role in “Bol Bachchan”, dedicated it to wife Aishwarya Rai and also thanked the entire cast and crew of the film for believing in him.
“‘Bol Bachchan’ is very, very special film to me and I stand here in front of you humbly receiving the award,” said Abhishek and thanked the film’s director Rohit Shetty and co-star Ajay Devgn for “having faith in me”.
Apart from the film’s cast and crew, the 37-year-old also made a special mention of his actress wife Aishwayra Rai in the acceptance speech Saturday.
“I would like to thank my family for firstly having me because things wouldn’t have worked without that. I really owe this to Aishwarya and the love and support she has given me. She makes me the person that I am,” said the actor after winning the trophy at the first edition of (TOIFA) Times of India Film awards 2013.
Abhishek, who also performed at the event, said it was a long due gig for his fans in the city.
He said: “Almost five years ago me and my family were scheduled to perform in Vancouver for the Unforgettable tour (in 2008). Unfortunately, the show in Vancouver got cancelled and I promised I will make it up to you and I hope that was a bit of a payback. And I promise you next time I won’t only bring Aishwarya, I will bring dad (Amitabh Bachchan) as well,” he said.
“But Shiamak, you will have to choreograph it,” said the 37-year-old, whose act was choreographed by Indian Contemporary Dance choreographer Shiamak Davar.
He later called up Krushna, his co-star from “Bol Bachchan”, and handed over the award to him saying, “you deserve this”.

Priyanka Chopra isn't quite a party hottie

Priyanka makes a-blink-and-you-miss appearance at Dior bash. Just in case you have seen Priyanka Chopra in the Nokia 6700 ad, where pictures showing her partying hard get circulated among friends, you'd have wondered why she put in a blink- and- you- miss- it appearance at the Christian Dior bash on Wednesday night at the chic Blue Bar at Taj Palace.

Did she have a more happening party to go to?

Kalyani Chawla, who put the show together, and was wearing Dior's autumn- winter frill dress paired with John Galliano 5- inch heels, was a bundle of nerves when Piggy Chops didn't show up till 10 in the night.

The actor did appear in Dior's white chiffon evening gown, which was the showstopper for the brand's Winter 2009 collection, but before the guests who had packed the bar could react, she was back in her room.

One of the disappointed guests was restaurateur AD Singh, who said, "It should've gone on for at least 15 minutes for people to get an idea of the new collection and to appreciate the hard work that has gone into it." Singh, who came with his better half, Sabina, and wore his favourite Kenzo suit, had arrived on time and it was obvious that he wasn't happy with the outcome of his long wait.

The man behind Olive Bar & Kitchen was also unhappy about the bar's layout, for people dining in the attached Vietnamese restaurant, Blue Ginger, couldn't get to see the sprawling greens outside.

"When you have such a great view, you should've planned the restaurant in a way that people got the best of both spaces," he said, commenting on the partition raised to separate the bar from the restaurant.

Genesis Luxury MD Sanjay Kapoor left the party much before the action started, but he loved the collaborative effort of Dior and Taj Palace. "The Blue Bar is a stylish place and Dior is a chic brand, so the outcome is a gathering of fashionable people," he said. But Kapoor couldn't help adding he loves to flaunt the labels - Paul Smith and Bottega Veneta - that he markets in the country. It's hard to catch him in any other label.

Designer Rohit Bal also stuck to his favourite label - he came in his Men's Fashion Week peacock jacket, which he said he'd picked up in a hurry. "I didn't know what to wear to the Blue Bar as it is super chic, so I decided to pick up whatever caught my fancy," he said.

There weren't many Dior gowns shimmering around, but there were plenty of Pretty People - from designers Ritu Beri, Suneet Varma and Rajesh Pratap, to Dabur scion Amit Burman, Amici restaurant's Pia Pauro and Mumbai's peripatetic socialite Queenie Dhody. Priyanka kept them all waiting - and asking for more.

Bollywood & its Indian spirit

It's time when Indians come together to celebrate the spirit of India's Independence. While 64 years has been passed since the historical event, India has been evolved greatly and the outlook of her people has changed significantly. Similarly the essence of the word 'Independence' has got different shades and Indians perceive it in various angles. Although we got freedom from British, we are bonded by several self-created problems and social elements and one which is most dreaded criminal is the CORRUPTION.
With a view to bring in this year's Independence Day, IndiaGlitz takes a look at those movies which not exactly celebrates the patriotic day but it speaks a lot about contemporary India, today's generation and also highlights the plights of aam aadmi, aam junta.
A Wednesday - A common man's attempt to teach the government a lesson by taking rules in his own hands.
Nayak - Where a common man brings revolution in the system. In fact, if one takes in the current scenario, every city needs a person who can stand up to fight the corruption.
Chala Mussadi Office Office - Highlights the common problem of a common man.
Swades - A man's realisation of his love for his motherland, fellow beings...
Rang De Basanti - A list is in complete without the mention of this Rakesh Omprakash Mehra's movie. It ignites the very spirit of oneness and awakening. As the movie's tagline goes - A Generation Awakens.
Lakshya - A typical urban youth at certain point of time realises his responsibility towards life, people and country.
My Name Is Khan - It teaches a valuable lesson - There are only two kinds of people: one good and other bad; but there is nothing like Hindu, Muslims, Christians and so on.
A movie which brings all people under one roof, erasing the religion differences.
Peepli Live - Relevant to real life, the movie highlights the plight of Indian farmers in a comic way. It aptly conveys that a serious matter can be blown out of proportion with media hype, but at the end of day the issue would not be solved.
.....the list is incomplete. There are many more such movies which make one think about their country and countrymen. Some movies which touch the heart and stirs the mind. Tell us your choice of film which has made you ponder; those which made you feel that we belong to 'India' and we have to do something for it....
IndiaGlitz wishes all its readers a very Happy Independence Day!
