Tom Cruise follows Akki and Aamir

The formula for promoting big, blockbuster movies is the same the world over. If Akshay Kumar attended premieres of Chandni Chowk To China in London, New York, Los Angeles and Toronto, then Tom Cruise kicked of promotions for his film Valkyrie in Korea this week.

Cruise delighted his fans with his punctuality and his easy charm. Showing up along with the film's director Bryan Singer and writer Christopher McQuarrie at a photocall and media conference first, Cruise tackled even pesky questions with a smile.

Famously reclusive and always unwilling to talk about his family, Cruise tactfully handled a question about his wife and daughter joining him on the sets of this film in Germany last year.

"It was a lot of fun having them with me. Having Suri there, we went to parks, went out a lot. The people were very nice and generous to us," said Cruise.

The same evening, the actor arrived bang on time at an event in downtown Seoul where fans had been nevertheless queuing up for hours to catch a glimpse of him.

Flashing his legendary thousand-watt smile, Cruise interacted with several fans before taking the stage to engrave his hand prints in a mould that will be displayed at the venue shortly.

Valkyrie, a World War II thriller based on an intricately planned but unsuccessful attempt to assassinate Hitler by the German side, released in the US in December to lukewarm reviews, and will have a staggered release across the rest of the world, with India set to open in February.

Committed to driving the film into a commercial success, Cruise will attend premieres across the world smiling for fans and dodging questions relating to his belief in the controversial Church of Scientology.

With millions of dollars riding on his every film, Cruise has repeatedly said that promoting a film is just as important as making them, a lesson Aamir, Shah Rukh and Akshay seem to have understood recently.

The world's biggest movie star Tom Cruise kicked off his worldwide promotional tour in Seoul with more appearances lined up in Berlin, Amsterdam and Brazil. India, he said, not this time, but soon.
